Before you compost those skins and seeds left from your tomato canning, a better use would be a wonderfully nutritious food for your poultry. The skins in particular are loaded with the anti-oxidant compound lycopene, along with Vitamin C, Potassium, folates and Vitamin K. The seeds are a good source of fiber. Your poultry will dig right in and love you for it! If you are looking for a good late summer food for your chickens, tomato guts would be a good choice! Sources:Original Article, Susan Burek. |
